Let me pick this apart for a second; bare with me. Let’s look at the definition of the word “Syndrome”…’a group of symptoms that consistently occur together or a condition characterized by a set of associated symptoms.’. Well that seems simple enough. So in that case we would all have some kind of unofficially diagnosed “Syndrome” correct? For instance, a person who looks at someone and negatively judges them based on the fact that they are ‘different’ than they are thinking they are superior to an individual who has special needs simply because they’ve been branded with a label…Well, that person would probably have what is the opposite of Down Syndrome and what I like to call, “High Syndrome” or how about “Ignorant Syndrome” or “Haughtiness Syndrome”. So maybe we could raise awareness about those next month? Just sayin.
I wonder? Just what if the name “Down Syndrome” was different? The word “Down” holds such negative connotations to begin with. I mean seriously, could the Doctor who discovered the extra chromosome have a more depressing last name? So I vote we change it. Is that possible? If so, I was thinking something along the lines of “Awesome Syndrome” instead. Or how bout’ “Miracle Syndrome”, or even “Eternal Blessing Syndrome”? Just a thought.
